Gorgeous mid-late 19th century cross necklace made of vulcanite or ebonite, a type of thermoplastic consisting of a hardened rubber.
This was a very common material for jewelry during the time period, as well as small accessories, combs, photo cases, and purse and parasol handles.
The large and ornate cross features a beautiful, high relief floral design and the lightweight but chunky chain is absolutely stunning.
+++ Measurements +++
18" long chain
Cross measures 3" x 1 3/4"
+++ Condition +++
Lovely condition overall. Still very dark coloring to the vulcanite though there are a few faded/lighter places.
Very small nick on the back side of the cross that is not visible from the side or the front.
