This exquisite piece is a traditional Sri Lankan hair pin called a Kondakoora that has been converted into a brooch circa late 19th to early 20th century.
Fashioned in sterling silver with some portions in 9k rose gold, it is set with stunning rose cut zircons that look just as beautiful as diamonds in my opinion!
These were fashionable in Sri Lanka as hairpins through the 18th and 19th centuries, but as the styles shifted, most were converted to be worn as brooches. This piece was converted around the turn of the century but was likely made quite a bit earlier.
