This incredible little brooch features a crescent moon studded with seed pearls and a tiny little owl sitting on it with green paste stones for eyes and a ruby paste stone flower on a vine. The piece dates from the late 19th century, circa 1890s.
Symbolism was highly desirable in Victorian jewelry, and the crescent moon is one of my favorites! It symbolizes feminine beauty, power, and wisdom. Owls have also long been associated with wisdom, and although they are somewhat rare and difficult to find now, they were a beloved motif in Victorian era jewelry.
Combined together, these symbols are not only beautiful and whimsical but also meaningful.
The brooch is gold filled.
Listing is for the brooch only. Box is not included with the listing.
