One of the most unusual and beautiful long guard chains I've ever come across! I have never seen one quite like this.
Circa 1870s-1880s, the "chain" itself is made up of ropes of very fine woven gold wire fashioned into a kind of flat, ribbon-like chain with a diamond shaped gold motif on top.
The beautiful, large slide is set with a pearl and red and blue paste stones. The back side is engraved with a lovely design.
A dog clip connects the two ends of the chain and can be used to attach a charm or pendant, pocket watch or fob. The chain can be doubled or worn at full length.
The entire piece, including the slide and dog clip, is fashioned in 14k gold.

+++ Condition +++
Lovely condition overall with some minor age-related wear and patina. The chain itself is made up of very fine gold wire woven together. There is some darkening and patina to parts of it. Also there are a few spots on the chain that are slightly bent or with a tiny wire end exposed. This does not cause an issue other than a minor catch when moving the slide. However, if handled with care, it is not a problem.
