This beautiful Swiss waist in purple velvet has silk ribbon straps tied in bows and laces up the front.
Swiss waists of this style were quite popular in the 1860s, but the boning channels in this piece lead me to believe it was either made or reworked in the 1880s-90s.
It has handworked eyelets and I have added black waxed cotton lacing, as the original lacing has been lost.
+++ Measurements +++
Fully laced with no gap in the front:
26" bust and 19" waist
+++ Condition +++
This piece is a perfect candidate for study, display, or pattern-making. Condition is quite worn overall, with wear to the velvet, deteriorating silk ribbon straps, and a few small holes. A couple of the boning channels are worn through.
Likely not wearable.
