Before the days of sunglasses, there were tinted glasses, believed by some to improve vision, but also worn for the sake of fashion by others. Some were worn as eye protection from the elements.

I have seen these glasses called "sharpshooter glasses" but have been unable to find any evidence of them actually being called that during the era or being used for shooting. It is possible they were simply used as visual aids.

These gorgeous orange tinted eyeglasses date from the mid-later 19th century. They have brass frames with extending arms and octagonal lenses.

They are marked "40" on one arm.

+++ Measurements +++

They measure approximately 4.5" wide across the front.

+++ Condition +++

Excellent overall condition with minor patina to the frames. The lenses are in great shape.

These are wearable with care at your own risk (the lenses are made of glass, and therefore do not meet modern safety regulations).
