A unique coat in a very lightweight wool, I initially thought this could be an evening coat, but considered the possibility that it is not quite fancy enough.
After some searching, I came across some late 1890s traveling dusters that looked very similar, and I believe this piece likely served a similar purpose.
The front has two hook and eye closures, the sleeves are open and wide.
There are decorative buttons on the front and the sides. Slits partway up the sides allow for a broader sweep to accommodate large skirts.
Note that the fabric is not particularly soft. It holds its shape well and is quite thin, which are good qualities in a garment used for protecting one's clothing while traveling.
+++ Measurements +++
Open sizing, approximate medium to large.
13.75" between the shoulder seams. Sleeve length from shoulder seam to cuff is 22"
51" total length
+++ Condition +++
Overall the coat presents beautifully. Upon close inspection, you will see several light moth nibbles throughout, most that do not go all the way through, though some do. There are also a few faint stains. Examine the photos for more details.
