Fabulous green and gold changeable woven silk/wool blend dress circa 1890s with large leg o' mutton or gigot sleeves.
This dress seems to have been homemade and even includes some of the leftover fabric!
The bodice has hook and eye closures down the center front and is lined with brown cotton, and the boning channels are covered in red cotton. There is a bit of padding in the bust area.
Bodice has forest green silk around the collar, trimmed with golden brown cord. Ribbon around the collar with a bow at the back.
Skirt is lined with a very stiff polished cotton and closes with one large hook and eye at the center back.
Due to the measurements and proportions of this dress I would guess it was a misses size for an older teen. It is an exquisite piece and would be excellent for study, display, inspiration, or pattern making!
+++ Measurements +++
28" bust
20" waist
40" skirt length
+++ Condition +++
Lovely condition, especially for her age! Very minor wear only and a few extremely minor flaws to note:
- A small section of the lining has come unstitched
- No fastener for the ribbon in the back of collar
- Some light staining/discoloration in the bodice lining
- A bit of patina/corrosion on a few of the hooks/eyes
- Small mend in the lining
Likely best for study or display due to the age and very small size but this piece would be wearable with care.
