Beautiful "bohemian garnet" brooch in the shape of a crescent moon with a flower.
Deep, rich garnets set into gilt metal.
This style of garnet jewelry became popular during the Victorian era. See photos for an example of a catalog page from an 1898 Sears catalog showing similar styles.
Crescent moons are a symbol of the divine feminine and were a popular honeymoon gift from a husband to his new wife in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
+++ Measurements +++
1 3/8" diameter
+++ Condition +++
Lovely condition with normal wear commensurate with age. There may be a tiny stone missing from the tip of the moon, but it is not clear if there was a stone there originally or not. Either way, it is not noticeable.
