Beautiful blue velvet sleeveless bodice, ladies waistcoat, or vest circa 1880s. This is a very unique and interesting piece, so I am not entirely certain what it would have been called at the time it was made.
I have seen the term "corsage" used in print as late as the 1880s, but it was a term more frequently used earlier to refer to what we now call "swiss waists."
Lined and boned all around. Silk inner grosgrain belt with single hook and eye closure. Hook and eye and hook and thread closures down the front and side.
Three stunning, large, carved shell buttons on the front. It is such a special piece!
Cotton shirtwaist sold separately.

Very nice condition overall considering age, minor flaws:

This piece is strong and would be wearable with care.
