Really adorable black velvet and silk bodice circa late 1880s.
Hook and eye closures up the front, right side. Bust padding inside the bodice, which is also boned. Large decorative velvet buttons on the front and back.
The velvet almost appears to be a deep midnight blue in some lights, but it could just be a different shade of black. The silk has a gorgeous high sheen that contrasts nicely agains the velvet and a wonderful subtle pattern of small spots.

+++ Condition +++
Condition is good considering age, but this bodice is best as a study or display piece.
The silk is mostly intact with a few small tears here and there. No evidence of shattering present except possibly the cuffs and inside adjacent to the closures, as shown.
There is a cut in one of the velvet buttons, and there appears to be some silk possibly missing from the lining adjacent to the closures.
Some of the boning has come free from the boning channels in the lining, and there is wear to the ruffled silk cuffs. Eye closure missing from the inner waistband ribbon.
