These fabulous earrings date from around 1870 and are made of human hair and gold. They are unmarked but test for at least 14k (though I suspect they are around 15k).
In incredible condition for their age, they look as though they were either very well cared for or never worn.
Hairwork jewelry was immensely popular in the mid to late 19th century and was worn for mourning, sentimental reasons, and even just for style points at the height of popularity.
