This is a lovely silk Swiss waist, corsage, or corselet -- I have seen them go by so many different names. And this one is quite unique, so I am not entirely certain what to call her.
If you look back in the old Godey's and other lady's magazines, you probably will not see them referred to as Swiss waists, but that is what they have become known as today.
I believe this one dates from around 1865. It is really superb, with its little beaded trim that looks like flowers and faceted glass buttons. This would have been worn over another waist/bodice.
This particular one is interesting for several reasons. It does not have any boning, and it also fits over the bust, not under the bust like so many others. I really love the shape. I have seen some bodices in a similar shape and style in fashion plates dating from 1865.
