Lovely black silk dress circa 1860s, likely second mourning or half-mourning due to its shiny finish and velvet trim.
Features lovely, decorative French jet buttons and includes a silk fichu trimmed with moire silk.
Hook and eye closures down the front of the bodice. Some snaps were added at the waistband at some point much later. One deep pocket at the side of the skirt.
A beautiful display or study piece.
Machine and hand sewn.
+++ Measurements +++
25.5" waist
36" bust
54" total length
+++ Condition +++
Overall fair condition with some flaws to note:
- Lining is severely shredded
- Some holes and splits in the silk in the bodice and skirt: 3-4" sized hole in the back, splits in the sleeves and underarms, wear at the waist
- Buttons are decorative but I believe there was one more at the top at one time
- Wear along the hem
Due to her age, I would not recommend this piece for wearing.
