This is a lovely silk Swiss waist, corsage, or corselet -- I have seen them go by so many different names.
If you look back in the old Godey's and other lady's magazines, you probably will not see them referred to as Swiss waists, but that is what they have become known as today.
This one laces up the front and the back. I believe it dates from around 1864. This would have been worn over another waist/bodice. I have a photograph in my personal collection showing a woman wearing a piece very similar to this one. It is dated 1864.
