Incredible unique, circa mid-19th century heavy 14k gold locket with enamel paintings on both sides and locks of hair within.
Although hair present in jewelry does not automatically make it a "mourning piece" (hair was also given as a sentimental gift between friends and family who were still living), the black border around the paintings makes me think this in fact was done in memory of someone who had passed.
Such an unusual shape and style, this is a one of a kind piece, undoubtedly commissioned and created specifically for the owner by a skilled maker and artist. I have never seen a locket anywhere close to this! It is truly something special.
Chain is not included in this listing. If interested, please contact me.
