Adorable circa 1890s bodice with a fun print on the sleeve puffs and front panel. The print reminds me of bubbles!
I think sometimes we assume that people "back then" were boring and lacked imagination in their dress, but that is far from the truth. That's why I love it when I find fun pieces like this!
Brown silk faille with silk velvet lapels, leg o' mutton or gigot sleeves. The bodice is lined with brown cotton and buttons down the center front. The front panel covers the inner bodice and has button closures down the side, which are hidden beneath the lapel.
Machine and hand sewn. I instantly fell in love with the teeny tiny stitches inside the bodice. Those are my absolute favorite little details to look for in pieces like this, and it shows someone put a lot of time and care into it!
+++ Measurements +++
35" bust
29" waist
+++ Condition +++
Lovely condition overall with some minor flaws to note:
- Wear around the collar and under arms
- Mild storage odor
- Some small rips on the inner bodice adjacent to the buttons, which would need to be repaired/stabilized before wearing
Despite the minor damage around the buttons on the inner bodice, this piece is quite strong and would be wearable with care after some small repairs are done, should you choose.
