Lovely tortoise shell pince nez glasses in a leather case c. 1880s-1890s. These glasses seemed to do almost nothing (no noticeable magnification), so I'm not quite sure what their purpose was.
The case reads:
J. Gall Co
21 Union Square, N.Y.
The glasses sit on the bridge of the nose (pince nez means pinch nose) and fold up nicely for storage when not in use.
+++ Measurements +++
Each lens measures approximately 1 3/8" across.
The leather case measures 2 5/8" x 1 7/8"
+++ Condition +++
Lovely condition overall with minor age-related wear and patina. The glasses are in excellent condition with one tiny imperfection on the edge of one lens.
