The most beautiful Rose of Sharon piece I have ever come across, this design is usually found on rings and only rarely seen on pendants.

Typically featuring an amethyst engraved with a flower, often set with a diamond, this design came into style during the 1870s-1880s. Sometimes a yellow stone was used, such as topaz or citrine.

Although I have always seen these pieces referred to as "Rose of Sharon," I have not been able to find any historical mention of this name for this particular style (I have looked high and low!), so I am not sure if the name is something that has happened more recently. For rings with this design, I have most often seen them referred to as "seal rings" or simply a ring with "inlaid stone" in extant catalogs from the period.

The term "Rose of Sharon" seems to have its origins in the Bible in Song of Solomon 2:1, in which "The Beloved" says "I am the rose of Sharon, a rose of the valley." Though the true meaning of the phrase remains a mystery, it has since been used in numerous romantic writings and poetry. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why these beautiful rings are such an excellent choice as engagement and anniversary gifts!

This stunning pendant features a very large amethyst stone, engraved with a flower and set with three old cut diamonds. The lovely 14k yellow gold setting is so intricately designed and further decorated with five split pearls.

It is unmarked but tests as 14k gold.

Listing is for the pendant only. Chain is not included.
