Foxes are clever creatures. They have long been a symbol of the trickster, and feature heavily in folklore and fairy tales in many cultures all over the world.

Hunting jewelry came into fashion in the 19th century, as it was popular for both men and women to wear pieces representative of their sporting interests. This included horses, dogs, and of course, foxes.

Fox hunting on horseback, using hounds to follow the scent of the fox, dates back to at least the 15th century in England (and even further back in other parts of the world), but became immensely popular with the upper class in the 1800s.

The use of dogs to hunt mammals was outlawed in England in 2004, but the tradition of the hunt lives on with the use of a scent trail rather than a live fox (called "drag hunting").

This adorable antique fox ring features a solid 19k gold head inset with glittering ruby eyes. It is a stick pin conversion piece and was affixed to a 14k gold band, likely sometime in the early 20th century.

This ring box is for display purposes only, but I will ship him in a ring box for you! (This one is a little too small for him.)
