Loving this beautiful 18k gold signet ring circa mid-late 19th century featuring the Earle or Earl family crest.
The surname Earle comes from the Saxon term "eorl" or "jarl," which referred to the wise or elder person in the village. Over time, it evolved to denote a leader or ruler, and eventually, during medieval times, it came to represent a nobleman of the highest rank.
The crest features three shells, referred to as scallops or escallops. In heraldry, they symbolize piety, victory and warrior spirit.
