Incredible silk cape by Irene Castle Corticelli Silks. Irene Castle was a famous dancer and film star of the 1910s-1920s who became a style icon and capitalized on her fame to create a clothing line.
She is credited as the first film celebrity to have their own self-named fashion brand.
This gorgeous piece is circa 1924, and I was able to find a newspaper ad for what I believe is this exact piece. I have included this ad and a couple of others from the same year in the photos.
Crepe silk with a softer lining and a fur collar, little baubles down the front and also on the back. And the most beautiful pleats all around.
I am so in love with the label!
+++ Measurements +++
One size fits most
15" between shoulders
42" length
+++ Condition +++
Condition overall is good with a few minor flaws. There is some fading on the back, a couple of missing baubles (not really noticeable), and the ties at the collar are missing. Label is a bit loose. The lining hangs slightly below the exterior.
Wearable with care and an absolutely fabulous piece of history.
