This beautiful 1896 bodice and shoes were worn by Elvira Schwender (née Modlich) for her wedding.

Also included are some calling cards belonging to Elvira (Ella) and her daughter Eugenia Schwender.

Elvira (Ella) Modlich was born around 1870. Both of her parents immigrated from Germany. She married Charles Schwender, a poultry farmer from Stoughton, Massachusetts on September 21, 1896 in Hyde Park, Boston, Massachusetts. Eugenia was born around two years later. Ella passed away in 1931.

The bodice is stunning! With huge sleeves, silk ribbons, and lace. It is a wool blend and lined with cotton. Hook and eye closures. The shoes are white kidskin leather.

+++ Measurements +++

Ella was a very petite lady when she got married! The bodice measures around 29" in the bust and 20" at the waist.

The shoes have an approximate 9 3/4" insole and are 2 5/8" wide.

+++ Condition +++

Good condition overall with some notable wear. Bodice has small moth nibbles and stains throughout. Structurally quite sound. Shoes are missing laces and the leather is flaking off of the heels. Some stains/marks but overall quite good for their age. These pieces were likely only worn for the wedding and then kept in storage.

Best for study or display.
