This is a wonderful 15k gold Victorian brooch with full hallmarks.

Victorian jewelry was full of symbolism, and this piece is a prime example. The arrow symbolizes mortality and the horseshoe good fortune and protection from evil. (According to folklore, horseshoes should always be worn facing up so the good luck doesn't spill out!)

The piece is interesting in that it is hallmarked twice, once with the date letter for 1886 and another with the date letter for 1887. It was hallmarked at the Birmingham assay office (the symbol is the sideways anchor) and it is marked '15 - 625' for 15k gold. It has been tested and is guaranteed to be 15k gold.

Box sold separately in the shop.
