This beautiful gold piqué inlay brooch is a Victorian mourning piece from the mid to late 1800s.
It features a grape design which was a common motif in mourning jewelry and clothing.
The grapes can be representative of the blood of Christ and the victory of life over death.
Piqué work is made by inlaying tiny points or pins of gold or other precious metals in patterns or pictures on tortoiseshell.
