An adorable little good luck charm in the style of the "Fumsup" doll charms. Fumsup was a brand that made these charming little dolls with articulating arms.

The name "Fumsup" was representative of the phrase "thumbs up," which is a symbol of good luck. The arms swing up to touch the doll's wooden head, another symbol of good luck: to touch wood.

Quite popular as gifts, they became especially well known during the First World War, when they were given to soldiers by their loved ones.

This particular doll does not have any "Fumsup" branding, so I am uncertain if it was done by another maker. The body appears to be perhaps a gilt base metal, though it is quite worn from years of being touched. It has a silver tone underneath with a bit of a worn gold finish.
