One of the most incredible, special jewelry pieces I have found in a long time, this banded agate brooch dates from the late 19th century, around 1880, and features an exquisite carved agate fly as the centerpiece surrounded by agate beads and a carved agate torpedo drop.
Everything about this piece is so magical! I am in love with the shape, design, and the attention to detail. And agate, especially banded agate, is one of my absolute favorite stones--and a favorite of the Victorians as well!
This brooch likely would have been worn at the collar of a bodice.
The back, frame, and fly legs are unmarked but test as silver.
