Gorgeous and quite large, these amphora earrings c. 1870s are a real statement piece!

An amphora is a type of ancient Greek or Roman vessel with a characteristic pointed bottom and two curved handles near the top. These were used for storing and transporting all types of substances, but most commonly they were used for wine.

During the Victorian era, interest in the ancient Greek and Roman cultures had a great resurgence, and as a result, amphorae became a beloved motif in jewelry. I personally love amphora jewelry! Something about the shape is not only elegant, but so interesting and unique.

I typically see these in solid 18k gold, and quite pricey as a result, but these are in 18k rolled gold with solid 18k gold ear wires, so here is your opportunity to grab a pair at a very reasonable price!

Box is for display only and is not included with this listing.

+++ Condition +++

Lovely condition overall with some minor age-related wear. Small dent near the top of one of the earrings, not really noticeable, especially because of how shiny these are!

There was some wear to the rolled gold finish when I received these, and my jeweler has completely restored them with another layer of 18k gold.
