This stunning ring is called a fede gimmel ring, with three separate rings that come together as two hands that clasp over a double heart.

The "fede" motif is one of my favorites and represents two clasped hands. It is Roman in origin and comes from the Italian for faith, and has come to symbolize "hands clasped in trust." A gimmel ring is one that is comprised of multiple rings that come together on a split shank.

Fede gimmel rings first rose in popularity in the 16th and 17th centuries as a symbol of the union between two people, often given as gifts of betrothal. This ring dates from the 19th century.

Unmarked but tested as 14k gold.

Listing is for the ring only. Ring box is not included.
