Stunning early 19th century / Georgian era gold long guard chain c. 1810s-1820s.
Amazing figural hand holding onto the bale / clasp, which is a hinged dog clip, held in place by a small threaded nut. The hand or fist has a wonderful fancy cuff!
It also has a beautiful solid 14k gold slide set with garnets, and the chain can be worn in a variety of different ways, doubled or tripled for medium and choker length styles.
Perfect for creatively styling with fobs and pendants or beautiful on its own.
Very special and unique piece. These are hard to come by but I am always seeking them out because they are so cool!
Unmarked but all parts tested for at least 14k gold, some closer to 18k.
+++ Measurements +++
24.65g
Chain is 57" total length
Bale adds 1.5" of length
+++ Condition +++
Lovely condition with no flaws to note, but there are some minor signs of wear and age, as is expected with a piece this age.
There's a place in the chain with two single links, which is where the chain was originally soldered together and is not a flaw.
Some patina and darkening of the gold, which I think is lovely!
