Circa very early 1900s, this black wool bodice / jacket with silk trimming and ruffles is really outstanding!
Due to its unique design, I imagine this piece being worn over a shirtwaist or perhaps a chemisette.
There are hook and eye closures at the waist and a hook and thread closure a couple of inches above, but no other closures. A velvet ribbon belt also fastens at the waist with hooks and threads.
Lined with a gorgeous black silk with pink stripes. The lining also features a silk ribbon inner waistband.
The collar is definitely a statement, with silk ruffles and lace trimming the wide lapels and a small point at the back.
Beautiful, symmetrical ribbon trimming designs cover the front, back, and sleeves.
+++ Measurements +++
29" waist
Open bust
12.5" shoulders
+++ Condition +++
Best for study, display, or inspiration, the silk trim is in poor condition, torn in several places, and generally unstable. The silk lining seems fairly good, however, and structurally, the wool is quite good, though there are moth nibbles present and a few stains. Missing a few of the decorative buttons on the sides.
