This fabulous silk and lace evening bodice almost looks...alive? The unique lace trim reminds me of tentacles of fingers!
I believe this piece dates from around the turn of the century, perhaps 1899-1900.
Lined with silk taffeta and fully boned. Dress shields sewn into underarms. Inner silk waistband with single hook and eye closure. Inner bodice has hook and eye closures down the center front and lace panel as hook and eye at waistband and hook and thread at the top.
Long fitted sleeves with pointed cuffs. Wide neckline has two hooks on the inside, one on either side, that may have been used to attach a removable high collar, perhaps to make this a day to night piece?
Very elegant and quite special!

Good condition overall for her age but likely best for study or display.
Structurally sound, but with several small lace breaks throughout. The decorative silk waistband is fraying/shattering at the edges.
