This stunning shirt-waist or blouse, circa 1900s, is a beautiful cotton lace with silk lining. The high collar is lined with embroidered crescent moons!
It has hook and eye closures down the center back and three quarter length, puffed sleeves. There is a tie at the back to cinch the waist.
Shown on a size 2 dress form, modeled with a black lace skirt from around the same era, also available in the shop (not included in this listing).
It is extremely clean and bright still, though not stark white. It is more of a very light cream.
+++ Measurements +++
Likely best for a small to smaller medium, it is meant to be worn somewhat loose around the bust with the waist cinched and bloused.
38" bust
13" collar circumference
16" between the shoulder seams
21" front length
19" back length
+++ Condition +++
Lovely condition overall. I do not think this was ever worn (perhaps once or twice if ever?)! There are a couple of very minor flaws:
- Tiny dark spot on the back shoulder, smaller than a dime and pretty faint. I have not stain treated this piece.
- The hooks/eyes are not stainless steel and do have some patina, though they are not rusting. It would be best to keep them from moisture.
I would recommend not washing this piece. Steam cleaning or perhaps dry cleaning only (I rarely trust dry cleaners with my antique pieces, though). It is wearable with care. The silk lining is in great shape but it is tissue silk, so it should be treated with care.
