Wonderful black and green gigot sleeve bodice circa 1890s. Black cotton or cotton blend woven with a light patterned cotton calico lining and green silk chiffon front panel and lace overlay.
Beaded appliqués on the back of the waistband. Fitted lower sleeves with little flared, pointed cuffs.
Hook and eye closures down the center front. Dress shields in the underarms. Boning channels sewn into the bodice lining.
The front panel attaches with hooks and eyes on the side. It does not appear to be the original one, but it also does not seem new. Likely an old replacement or repair.
+++ Measurements +++
32" bust
24" max waist
15" length
12" shoulders (measured across the back between the shoulder seams)
+++ Condition +++
Lovely condition overall with some wear from age:
- Some holes and wear spots, a small old repair
- I believe the front silk and lace piece was a repair and/or later addition and not original to this piece
- Some extra hooks on the side that likely attached the original front piece
- Dress shields have some underarm discoloration and stiffness
A beautiful piece, definitely wearable with care but also would be perfect for study or display.
