Extraordinary purple silk and white leather boots circa 1900s. These beauties were obviously a favorite of their owner and there is much wear as a result, but I simply could not pass them up.
Purple is one of my favorite colors, and this is such a wonderful jewel tone! The pierced, scalloped design around the top is echoed at the toe as well. They feel so whimsical! I would have loved to see their original owner wear them.
They were made by the H.M. & R. Shoe Co. out of Toledo, Ohio. I did not find much about this maker, but I do know they were founded around 1895 from an advertisement about one of their anniversary sales.
These lovelies would be best for study or display.
+++ Measurements +++
These boots are best for study or display. I do not recommend them for wearing. They are likely somewhere around a US size 6.
9 1/2 " inner sole length
2 3/4" width measured across the bottom of the sole at the ball of the foot, and 8 1/2" circumference at the same spot measured from the outside
2 3/4" heel
9 1/2" total height
+++ Condition +++
Very worn and best for study or display. The silk has been worn and frayed and stained in many places, and the once-white or cream leather is very stained from age and use. These were certainly well loved, and I can see why! The laces may be original. Someone has added a later insole.
