What a fly guy! This fabulous 14k gold pin features a wonderful little fly with a sapphire and pear body and seed pearl wings. I love how he looks like he's just kind of hanging onto the pin!
I have seen this style of pin referred to as a "safety pin" in antique catalogs from the 1900s. Unlike what we think of as a safety pin today, these came in solid gold and silver and featured precious gemstones set into figural insects, moons, stars, hearts, etc. I think they were likely used as a functional yet decorative pin for securing a collar or other piece of clothing.
Unmarked but tested at 14k gold.

1 3/16" long
+++ Condition +++
Lovely condition with a tiny flaw to note: one of the seed pearls seems to have lost a bit of its luster, but this is only visible through a magnifying loupe at certain angles. The pin presents beautifully!
