Fabulous mid-19th century, circa 1860s carpet bag in the loveliest colors.
Made from a wool carpet remnant, this would have been a travel bag. This is a medium-sized carpet bag and probably would have been used for a day trip. You could easily fit a book and a few snacks.
It is lined and has one pocket inside.
Two hook and eye closures hold the top flap down. The metal clasps does not function. There are also strings inside that you could tie to provide extra security in keeping the bag closed.
+++ Measurements +++
It measures approximately 14.5" x 12" x 2.5"
+++ Condition +++
Good condition overall, sturdy and usable with care. The main clasp is broken but there are two hook and eye closures.
There is one small hole in the lining and a bit of wear around the bottom edges and handle, but it is really great considering its age. Not many of these have survived, let along in this condition!
